Day 4 – The Renault Kwid passes through never ending Uttar Pradesh

A long drive

We knew it was going to be a long day of driving. We had reached Muradabad extremely late at night but before we could sleep to our heart’s content we were back on the road and cruising through India’s fourth largest state. Yes, Uttar Pradesh didn’t make a good impression on the first day but it did a good job of changing our view point on this day. The roads became wider. Broken tarmac sections were a bare minimum. No matter, our rugged Renault Kwids helped us maintain adequate average speeds.

The only things that slowed us down on these roads are the humans that use them

Blatant disregard for one’s life and others is very much the cause why many accidents take place in our country. Big multi-axle lorries came thundering down the fast lane of the opposite side of the road, idiots strolling on the highway as if they were out doing cardio. One clever individual decided he wanted to run across at the very precise moment that we were changing lanes. To counter such acts of stupidity, the Renault Kwid’s light steering helped us stay focused on the road and not on these distractions, of which were aplenty. Even it’s lighting system provided enough illumination to carry out night driving.

There was a bit of a gaffe with the hotel booking on my part in Gorakhpur

With the limited number of hotels in such areas, I pounced upon a good deal and paid for it without checking the dates properly. Upon arriving at the hotel, there was much confusion and despair. However, the hotel management realised our plight and offered to let us all bunk in together in their party hall. That just showed us a different side of Uttar Pradesh than the other one that we have so very much been forced down our throats. There are rare gems here as well who were kind and hospitable, you just have to find them.

Siliguri is on our radar for day five

Since we weren’t able to check off any further states, we are hoping to sail through Bihar and West Bengal. The driving time of 12 hours looks daunting but we’ll manage it nevertheless.
