Maruti Suzuki Dzire – evo fleet

The number 21.8 is extremely important in my life. That’s the number of kilometres that separates home from office. To cut across these many kilometres on a daily basis, mostly through the chaos that passes for traffic in Pune, one needs a comfortable and reliable mode of transport. And now, with the trends that fuel prices have shown, frugality and efficiency are critical needs of the hour as well. Into this demand-ridden world of mine has driven in the all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

I’ve been using it for the past couple of weeks and already I feel vindicated on everything that I had written after I had driven it in Goa for the first time a few weeks ago. What I have in the garage is the diesel variant with the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDiS engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. I like the shape of this new Dzire; far more palatable to the silhouettes of its predecessors. In fact, just the other day the missus commented that the new car doesn’t even look like a typical compact sedan.

The interiors are spacious, well-appointed and comfortable as well. Perfect surrounds for spending the hour or so that it takes me to get to work in. The steering is light and easy to use, though lacking in feedback, and makes short work of weaving through traffic. But what’s been keeping me agape is the fuel economy figure on the trip computer. Thus far, the numbers on the digital display have refused to go south of 18.5kmpl. As a matter of fact the lowest figure we’ve seen here is 18.3. In these days of fuel price hikes, what more could one ask for?
Stay tuned for more on life with the Dzire.
