2017 Audi A4 diesel launched at Rs 40.2 lakh

The new A4 was launched in India last year only with a petrol engine and the manufacturer had announced that the diesel will be coming later. It is finally here to strengthen the A4 portfolio with the launch of the new A4 35 TDI, priced at Rs. 40.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 2-litre, turbo-diesel engine was internationally Euro 6 compliant but for our BS4 quality fuel, Audi has had to tweak it and that’s why it has taken them this long to launch it. It makes 187.4bhp and 400Nm of torque and comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The company claims the A4 can clock the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 237kmph. According to Audi, the 2-litre diesel returns an ARAI certified efficiency of  18.25kmpl.

Apart from the addition of the diesel engine, the other highlight about the A4 is the weight. The TDI model is around 120kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the lighter materials used in making the car. Similar to the petrol variant, the 35 TDI model also gets LED headlamps, rear dynamic turn indicators, Audi’s virtual cockpit with two display modes, an 8.2-inch infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Audi’s phone box available with wireless charging.

The A4 goes up against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series. Jaguar is yet to launch the diesel engine in the XE.
