Updated Renault Kwid launched at Rs 2.6 lakh

The Kwid is one of the most popular offerings from Renault in India. The affordable hatch has been quite a game changer and volume driver for the French carmaker in our country and it now gets the mandatory safety features as well as an updated infotainment system.

Renault Kwid gets safer

With manufacturers rushing to conform to the government’s mandatory safety regulations, Renault too has taken the next step. The Kwid will now be sold with ABD, EBD, and a driver side airbag as standard across all variants. Driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and the speed alert system too will run across all the trims. The speed alert system, which we first saw in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, turns on an audio alert beyond 80kmph. At 120kmph and beyond though, the beep is constant. Another important safety feature that will come as standard is the rear view camera with assist through beep warning and colour guidelines. With cities getting congested even for small cars, the parking assist feature will be of great help.

New features on the Renault Kwid

Apart from the addition of safety features, the car also gets an updated Media NAV system with 17.64cm capacitive touchscreen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, there’s also a ‘Push to talk’ button allowing operations easy with a press of a button and better accessibility to applications like music, videos and navigation.

Currently, the Kwid is offered with two engine options. The 0.8-litre SCe (Smart Control Efficiency) engine makes 54bhp at 5678rpm and produces 72Nm of torque at 4386rpm. The 1.0-litre SCe, on the other hand, makes 67bhp at 5500rpm and 91Nm at 4350rpm. The updates also take the Kwid closer to its new rivals, the Hyundai Santro and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, both of which come with an extensive equipment list.
