Fourth generation BMW S 1000 RR launched in India

BMW Motorrad has launched the fourth-generation S 1000 RR in India with a starting price of Rs 18.5 lakh. BMW has launched the complete range which also includes the Pro and M Sport variants, priced at Rs 20.95 lakh and Rs 22.95 lakh, respectively. The S 1000 RR goes up against the likes of Ducati Panigale V4, Suzuki GSX-R 1000, Honda Fireblade and Aprilia RSV4.

The output now stands at 204bhp (eight horses over its predecessor) and 113Nm. The RR’s all-new engine is also four kg lighter than the unit that came before. Following suit with BMW’s car technology, this is the first time the brand’s ShiftCam system has been introduced into a motorcycle engine, aiding the motor’s torque and spread of power. Thanks to lighter, hollow valves, and a whole load of other refined trick bits, the shorter, narrower motor has also seem the rev limit rise to 14,600rpm.

The S 1000 RR’s Flex Frame, too, is lighter by a whopping 1.3kg and the geometry is sharper too. The base model gets new 45mm fully-adjustable closed-cartridge forks which are lighter by 300gm, making the bike lither than a leopard.

The top M-Sport variant is equipped with the German firm’s most adjustable and advanced DDC (Dynamic Damping Control) suspension ever, retaining all the virtues of being semi-active. Plus, they can now be re-shimmed to suit individual track and rider preferences.

We will be riding the motorcycle tomorrow at the BIC, so stay tuned for the review. BMW promises it’ll be the track perfect weapon, for it is more usable than ever…and we cannot wait to get our hands on it!
