Audi has pulled the wraps off the third-generation Q7, its flagship SUV that has been a key part of the brand's global line-up since 2005. The new Q7 brings a sharper design, a significantly upgraded cabin, new seating configurations and a host of technology upgrades, while retaining the V6 diesel powertrain and quattro all-wheel-drive system that have long been associated with the luxury SUV. The new Q7 is available in five-, six- and seven-seat configurations, making it one of the most versatile luxury SUVs in its segment. Audi says the SUV has been designed to offer greater comfort, practicality and technology, whether it's being used as a family car, long-distance tourer or executive transport.

Audi Q7 design gets new digital lighting and a more imposing stance

At first glance, the new Q7 is instantly recognisable as an Audi, but almost every panel has been reworked. A larger Singleframe grille, slimmer lighting elements and more pronounced wheel arches give the SUV a stronger road presence.

The highlight, however, is the lighting technology. The Q7 can be equipped with Digital Matrix LED headlights featuring micro-LED technology, while the rear gets third-generation OLED tail-lamps with multiple digital light signatures.

Audi has also introduced what it calls an advanced turn signal system that projects indicators onto the road surface, helping alert pedestrians and cyclists to the vehicle's intentions. The rear OLED lights can also display warning graphics in specific traffic situations.

Audi Q7 interior now offers five-, six- and seven-seat layouts

For the first time, the Q7 can be specified as a six-seater with individual captain seats in the second row. Buyers can also choose the traditional seven-seat configuration or a five-seat layout focused on luggage space.

The cabin receives a major overhaul with new displays, upgraded materials and additional practicality features. Boot space stands at up to 806 litres in the five-seat version and can expand to more than 2,000 litres with the rear seats folded.

A new panoramic glass roof is another standout feature. It features switchable transparency, allowing occupants to change the roof from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button. Audi has also integrated ambient lighting into the roof structure itself.

Audi Q7 technology includes ChatGPT integration and 4D audio

The technology upgrades extend beyond the displays. Audi's latest infotainment system now integrates ChatGPT through the Audi Assistant, allowing users to ask general questions and control vehicle functions using natural voice commands.

Passengers also get access to an Audi App Store, while audiophiles can opt for a new Bang & Olufsen 4D sound system with 22 speakers and 1,360W of output. The system uses seat-mounted actuators to create vibrations that sync with the music, delivering a more immersive listening experience.

Audi Q7 engine gets mild-hybrid technology and electric boost

Powering the new Q7 is a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine offered in two states of tune. The more powerful version develops 299bhp and 630Nm, while the lower-output variant produces 245bhp and 500Nm.

Both engines are paired with Audi's latest MHEV Plus mild-hybrid system, which can contribute up to 24bhp of additional power when required. An electric compressor helps improve throttle response, while the mild-hybrid setup can assist during overtaking, low-speed driving and parking manoeuvres. An eight-speed automatic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive are standard across the range.

Audi Q7 chassis and driver assistance systems receive major upgrades

Audi says comfort and handling have been improved through revised suspension systems and optional adaptive air suspension. Buyers can also opt for all-wheel steering, which improves manoeuvrability at low speeds and stability on highways. The Q7 also gains a long list of driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, automated parking functions, reverse assist, blind-spot monitoring, emergency braking and a new emergency assist feature capable of guiding the vehicle to the side of the road if the driver becomes unresponsive. The new Audi Q7 will go on sale in Europe later this year, with prices in Germany starting from €87,900 (around ₹87 lakh before taxes and duties). There is currently no word on an India launch, though the Q7 remains an important model in Audi India's SUV portfolio.
