Geneva Motor Show Special: Jaguar i-Pace concept revealed

Jaguar made its foray into the EV world with the unveiling of its i-Pace concept at the Geneva International Motor Show today. This production ready concept is the marque’s first ever electric vehicle and will be launched in 2018 with a production version scheduled for preview in late 2017. Jaguar claims that this smart five-seater combines the performance of a sportscar with the flexibility of use of an SUV and going by what we have experienced in the more conventional F-Pace, we are more than happy to give the benefit of doubt to the team that has created the i-Pace.

“The i-Pace Concept is a radical departure for electric vehicles. It represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. It’s a dramatic, future-facing design – the product of authentic Jaguar DNA matched with beautiful, premium details and British craftsmanship. This isn’t just a concept. It is a preview of a five-seat production car that will be on the road in 2018. This will be Jaguar’s first-ever battery-powered electric vehicle and opens a new chapter in the history of our legendary brands,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar.

With plans in place to take Jaguar Land Rover’s three vehicle manufacturing plants in the UK close to their operating capacity, the i-Pace will be manufactured at Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria. With more than 100 years’ experience, Magna Steyr has extensive contract manufacturing expertise working with many car manufacturers globally.
