Honda BR-V v Rivals: Price Comparo

The new Honda BR-V was launched earlier today and we have put it up against some of its rivals to see how it has been priced. The Creta is an ICOTY winner and is a benchmark in the compact SUB segment, the Duster is an alternative which has been around longer and is much more reasonably priced and the XUV500 is an SUV which, like the BR-V, offers a third row of seats.

If this third row is your prime concern, note that the BR-V is significantly less expensive than the XUV500. Sure, the cars do not technically belong in the same segment, but the lines between these segments are blurring with every new launch and each car is eating into every other car’s market share. Now, when compared with the Duster and the Creta, the BR-V comfortably slots itself between the two. The base Duster is priced better that the base BR-V, but it is a bit too bare boned as well.

Honda offers the BR-V with dual airbags on all cars, right from the base variants. While the base petrol doesn’t get ABS and EBD, all other variants gets them. The Duster, which is the closest in pricing to the BR-V but the base Duster gets neither airbags or ABS and EBD. Meanwhile, the Creta and XUV500 offer these safety features on all their cars, right from the base variant to the top-end cars.

Where the BR-V misses out is on the infotainment front. While the top-of-the-line variants of the Duster, Creta and the XUV500 all get a touchscreen system with reversing cameras and parking sensors, the BR-V gets a simple 2-DIN audio system with all your functions like Bluetooth, AUX input and USB.

As far as auto transmissions go, the BR-V gets the option of a CVT, but is only available with the petrol engine. The Hyundai Creta also gets a petrol automatic, but it is nearly one lakh more expensive. And if you are looking for a bit of off-road ability in your SUV, both the Duster and the XUV500 get options for AWD transmissions to give them some serious off-road cred.

With prices for the BR-V starting at just Rs 8.75 lakh and topping out at Rs 12.9 lakh, it is a great deal considering it offers a usable third row. Its rivals may outdo it on the features front, but they are also considerably more expensive than the BR-V.
