Kevin Schwantz at the Buddh International Circuit

Team Evo India

Lookout for our special interview with Kevin Schwantz in our upcoming issue!

Even at 51, the American Moto GP legend Kevin Schwantz doesn’t seem to have a problem showing off on a bike. Which became evident at the BIC, when he came to pay us a visit.

Kevin addressed the media and then went out to do few laps on the Gixxer SF first, followed by the GSX-R 1000. Astride the Gixxer SF, he went around waving to the Indian crowd not leaving an iota of doubt about his humilty. Next up was superbike GSX-R 1000 and boy oh boy, Kevin displayed is flamboyance pulling off a long wheelie not once, but twice making the Indian crowd and media go wild. He seemed to be enjoying the BIC and what the track had to offer.

Kevin Schwantz learned to ride a bike when he was just 4 years old, and has 25 Grand Prix wins in his name. Kevin Schwantz is famous for his do or die attitude and even after all these years, he still serves as an inspiration for aspiring racers and fans across the world. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 and also named Grand Prix “Legend” by the FIM in the year 2000. On his tour to India he said, “I feel extremely privileged to come to India which has all the signs of a future racing power. Indians have a keen interest in motorsport culture and some of the best bike companies on the road! For me, it has been a pure delight to race with Suzuki over the past 3 decades on the finest GSX-R machines. During the final round of the inaugural Suzuki Gixxer Cup, I am eagerly waiting to see the best Indian talent on display. I look forward to seeing huge crowds, excited fans and very fine racing this weekend.”

Interacting with him gave us an insight into his life and career, which you can read in our upcoming November issue. For now all we can tell is that, he is a very humble and a charming man who loves to interact. He loved riding at the Buddh International Circuit and it would please him if one day he sees Moto GP being hosted at this track.
