Auto expo 2016: Tata Motors shows Kite sedan, Hexa and Nexon

Team Evo India

Tata Motors revealed the sedan version of the Zica hatchback. The Zica name however has been dropped in wake of the recent global health emergency created by the Zika virus. The sedan goes back to its Kite 5 code name for now. It’s a sub-4 metre compact sedan that sits under the Zest and shares its engines and gearboxes with its hatchback sibling.

Tata Motors also showcased the Hexa crossover with the Varicor 400 engine. Under the hood is the same 2.2-litre unit we sampled in the Safari Storme recently mated to a new six-speed manual transmission. The Hexa also gets an automatic gearbox option. You get a 149bhp oil burner with 400Nm of torque, good enough to compete against the new Innova that will also be revealed at the Auto Expo.

Also on display at the Tata pavilion was the Nexon compact SUV. This year has been the year of the sub-4 metre SUV. Mahindra launched the KUV100, Maruti showcased the VitaraBrezza and even Hyundai bit the bullet with its HND-14 concept. The Nexon will come sooner than the Hyundai for sure and will be powered by the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. As for the diesel, Tata Motors says it’s a new generation unit with best in class performance and efficiency. We’ll wait for more details.
