Auto Expo 2016: All-new Toyota Innova Crysta showcased

Team Evo India

Toyota’s highly successful Innova is set to be replaced and the MPV that takes its place is this one – the InnovaCrysta. A new name indicates that Toyota plans to continue selling the current generation Innova for some time as demand for the comfortable people’s carrier is still high among private cab operators.

The InnovaCrysta is built on a new ‘Toyota New Global Architecture’ (TNGA) platform that is said to be lighter and stiffer than its predecessor. The next generation Fortuner is also built on this platform. It’s still a ladder frame chassis like before that made the current Innova the robust vehicle that it is. The new Innova gets a bold grille up front with a sharp set of fog lamps and anaggressive front bumper. Projector type headlamps and LED DRLs give the new MPV a premium look. The rear too gets the new age treatment.

Powering the InnovaCrysta is a new set of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol mill is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine developing 139 horsepower and 184Nm of torque. The diesel engine is smaller than the current one at 2.4-litres yet develops 147bhp, 46bhp more than the current Innova. It’s also a lot lighter and more efficient than the car it replaces so we expect Toyota to be quite excited about its newest offering.

A five speed manual gearbox is standard and a six-speed automatic is also part of the line-up. A total of four grades are already planned. Key features include 17inch alloy wheels, leather interiors, ambient lighting, 7 inch touchscreen AVN, climate control, power adjustable driver’s seat, front airbags, ABS and EBD.
