Auto Expo 2016: All-new BMW X1 launched at Rs 29.9 lakh

Team Evo India

BMW has launched the latest generation X1 in India at a starting price of Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The prices go up to Rs 39.9 lakh for the fully loaded all-wheel drive variant. The new X1 goes up against the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q3 in India.

The new X1 sports an evolutionary design although it is an all new car. The car now looks much in line to the recently facelifted X3 and X5. It is considerably taller (53mm) than the car it replaces and that has intentionally been done to give the X1 the SUV stance its predecessor lacked. It’s built on new front wheel drive architecture now but with proper 50:50 weight distribution. The new architecture makes the X1 cheaper to produce now. The first two variants in the line-up are now FWD, while the top two get the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Only one engine will power the X1 at launch. The 20d variants sport a 1995cc turbocharged diesel engine developing 188bhp of max power and 400Nm of max torque. The engine comes mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox. The FWD variants can do the 0-100sprint in 7.8 seconds while the AWD variants take just 7.6 seconds.

The new X1 gets optional night vision cameras, 360 view cameras, a host of safety features including collision prevention systems at speeds of up to 210kmph.
