5 reasons the 2017 Fiesta should be launched in India

Abhishek Wairagade

The 2017 Ford Fiesta has been unveiled in the international markets and as we can all see, the design is a case of evolution, not revolution. The mini hot hatch is extremely popular in the European market (bestselling car in the UK for almost a decade), thanks to its combination of excellent road manners and powerful engines. Should Ford India bring it our shores?

We cite 5 reasons to tell you why:

To fill in the void:

The B-segment has been doing extremely with the likes of Hyundai i20 Elite and Maruti Suzuki Baleno hogging all the limelight. Ford has not had any competitor in this range ever. And the Fiesta is the perfect car for a segment that is still lacking proper enthusiast’s cars, barring the Polo TSI siblings and the Punto Abarth. The Fiesta blends well ansd can bring in all the numbers for Ford.

Shared platforms:

The Fiesta shares its platform with the EcoSport in the international markets. Ford recently showcased the EcoSport facelift and looking at the images, even the interiors have been shared by both the cars. As the EcoSport facelift is expected to land on our shores by end of 2017, Ford India can play its trump card by bringing in the Fiesta along, saving costs at the same time. What say Ford?

Excellent driving dynamics:

Fords have been known to be true blue driver’s cars, irrespective of the segment. Starting the revolution with the Ford Escort, Ford India brought in the Ikon, Mondeo, Fusion, Figo and Fiesta (sedan) to India and all the cars have excelled with their impeccable road manners. The new Fiesta is expected to be no different.

The hotter ST variant:

Fiesta is available in a hotter avatar too for the petrolheads! Fiat started the trend by bringing in the Abarth Punto which was followed by the recently launched Polo GTI. But the Fiesta ST comes with an 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that make even more power than the other two at 195bhp! Yes, the hatch can clock 100kmph in just 7 seconds and at least on paper, smokes the other two rivals.

Looks do matter:

The Fiesta is a looker and has one of the sportiest designs in the hatch market. We have loved the Focus for decades and the Fiesta reminisces of the evergreen hatch to us (who doesn’t like rally cars?). Even the feature list is long like others Fords which makes it extremely desirable. And of course, the jacked up crossover variant is available too. And we Indians love it!
