Maruti Alto sales cross the 3 million mark

Team Evo India

If there ever was a car that could shatter sales records in the country, it would have to be the Maruti Suzuki Alto. the Alto has remained the best-selling car of the year consistently for a decade now and still shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, Alto sales just reached the 3 million unit milestone, not a small feat at all.
The alto was launched way back in 2000 and has, quite apparently, done remarkably well. It crossed the 1 million unit sales milestone in November 2008 and by April 2012, it had sold 2 million. Now, 15 years and 6 months after the initial launch, the Alto has crossed the 3 million unit barrier and has become the first Indian car to do so.
The alto has been constantly evolving to keep up with the market. It was originally introduced as an 800cc car but now apart from the 800cc engine, the K10 variant comes with a 1-litre engine and even an AMT gearbox. Being a small, frugal car which is a breeze to potter about in the city, it checks all the right boxes for the average Indian buyer.
The Alto still consistently sells around 20,000 units every month. It will be interesting to see what other records it could go onward to break.
