Audi has announced that their legendary division, Quattro GmbH will now be called Sport GmbH. Not to be confused with Audi’s all wheel drive system which is also called the Quattro.

The division is responsible for the research and development and manufacturing of Audi’s performance vehicles, the Audi R8 and the RS range. Part of the responsibilities also include the motorsport aspect of Audi with the 24 hour Le Mans and also now on their new Formula E programme. Other than this, it will also allow the customers to customise their cars as a part of Audi’s exclusive programme.

Audi also has also plans to increase their specialised dealer network from 370 to somewhere close to 600 by early 2018. The division has already seen a success with an increase in sales over the past few years and Audi hopes to keep that success going with the increase in dealer network.

The Audi Sport GmbH will remain on the Neckarsulm site and Audi has plans to increase the current range by another 8 cars in the next 18 months but till then will continue to produce the RS line-up which consists of the RS3 sedan, RS Q3 Performance, RS6 Avant, the RS6 Avant Performance, the RS7 Sportback and Sportback performance and the Audi TT RS. The Audi R8 and the S8 plus will also be now manufactured by the Sport GmbH.
