Auto Expo 2016: BMW Motorrad to announce plans for India

It is official! BMW Motorrad is coming to the Auto Expo and the first motorcycle from the new Indo-German alliance of TVS-BMW –the G310R will be showcased by BMW Motorrad. TVS is likely to showcase its version of the G310R at the Expo fairgrounds as well.

BMW Motorrad is expected to announce its product portfolio and dealership network plans for the Indian market at a press conference at the expo. Expect models from BMW Motorrad’s lineup that will come to India to make it to the BMW stall. There are also rumours about the G310R will be launched at the expo. The jointly developed G310R is an important product for BMW as well as TVS as they aim to target the global entry level market and the premium Indian bike segment. The motorcycle has a newly developed 313cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine that will produce maximum power of 33.5bhp and maximum output of 28Nm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The motorcycle will be built at TVS Motor Company’s production facility.

According to reports, BMW Motorrad is also planning to set an assembling plant at BMW India’s production facility in Chennai for BMW motorcycles. The company has plans to assemble the F700 and F800 GS motorcycles at this new facility. BMW Motorrad till now has not been bullish on the Indian market but with the big bike scene evolving and all international motorcycle manufacturers setting up shop in India, the time is ripe for a renewed effort from the German bike maker.
