Toyota Kirloskar Motors(TKM) has started accepting bookings for the petrol variant of its much popular MUV, Innova Crysta. The NGT tribunal’s diesel ban has reeled in several manufacturers to introduce petrol variants in the market. Innova Crysta was being sold in diesel trims only, till date.

Expected to be powered by a 2.7-litre engine, of which, the details have not been revealed yet, but sources claim that it churns out 164bhp and 245Nm. The engine is developed in India by TKM in association with Japanese engineers. It will be mated to either a 5 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission, like its diesel sibling. Other than the engine, no changes are expected to be incorporated in the petrol variant.

The Innova Crysta diesel is available in 4 variants, G, Gx, Vx and Zx. The engine options include 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesels. The powertrains make 147bhp and 171bhp, respectively. Automatic transmission is available only with the 2.8-litre though.

The Innova Crysta is priced at a premium as compared to predecessor, but has been doing handsome numbers. Having launched in May, 30,000 bookings have been made so far. TKM, having anticipated the popularity of petrol engines in the country had to launch a petrol variant sooner or later. Prices will be revealed soon and the deliveries are expected to begin by August.
