Jaguar XJ facelift unveiled

Team Evo India

New tech and equipment on the inside keep the Jaguar XJ fresh for the new year

The British Marque has unveiled the latest edition of its flagship, hot on the heels of the Jaguar XF refresh, and there isn’t all that much to differentiate it from its predecessor. The striking car now gets new full LED headlamps with smart DRLs, and new LED tail lamps and oval exhaust tips. The top-spec Autobiography trim will only be available with the long wheelbase version of the sedan.

It is under the skin that a lot of work has gone to keep their s-class and 7 series rival competitive. Mechanically speaking, the sedan gets a new electrically assisted steering system for all the rear wheel drive models. Engines have been retained (3-litre V6 diesel and 5-litre V8 petrol ) but the XJ also gets Jaguar’s new All-surface Progress control, essentially a low speed cruise control system that uses the brakes and throttle to provide traction over wet or icy surfaces. Performing in the same masser as cruise control, all the driver needs to do is steer. Other equipment offered as standard includes adaptive cruise control, a 360° surround camera system and semi-automated perpendicular and parallel-parking.

The cabin has also been given a new 8-inch infotainment screen coupled with a 26 speaker, 1300w sound system developed in conjunction with Meridian. The rear seats have access to two 10.2- inch high-definition screens which fold away when not in use, while 100Gb of media storage is also provided. if all goes well, people in the subcontinent will be able to get their hands on the new XJ by early next year.
