The small-capacity adventure touring segment is arguably the most potential one, in the current market scenario. And to tap that, Kawasaki has just launched its Versys-X 300, which is based on the Ninja 300.
Sharing the same 296cc, parallel-twin powertrain, which is mated to a six-speed transmission, Kawasaki has made changes to the exhaust, intake, and gearing to give this bike more low-end and mid-range grunt than the Ninja 300. It makes 39 bhp @ 11,500 rpm and 25.7 Nm @ 10,000 rpm.
The X 300 gets long-travel suspension (130mm travel) in the front, and a monoshock with 147mm travel, coming with adjustable Uni-trak kit by Kawasaki. Unlike its older siblings, Versys 650 and 1000, the X 300 gets spoked wheel, a requirement for off-roading. A noteworthy heat management system has been added which is expected to allow a better flow of air, and in turn dissipate engine heat much more efficiently. A 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear adds to the versatility of Kawasaki’s smallest bike in the segment. With a low seat height (815mm), 17-litre fuel tank, ABS, and a large windscreen, the Versys-X 300 should be great for long rides as well.
On paper, the bike goes up against the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the upcoming BMW G 310 GS. However, it comes with a steep price tag as compared to its rivals thanks to it coming via the CKD route. Wait for Evo India’s review as we tell you if it’s worth the money.
