The British formula one racing champions, McLaren Automotive is now working on a new Hypercar, which carries forward DNA from the legendary F1. Codenamed the BP23 (Bespoke Project 2), the car is being developed by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO)

The MSO is a special department that caters to unique customers commissions. They are also specialized at servicing and upgrading McLarens including the F1 and were crucial in creating the P1 GTR programme. MSO are also responsible in creating one-offs for special customers like the McLaren X-1 for an undisclosed customer in 2012.

McLaren confirmed that the BP23 will be a three seater, like the glorious F1 and will be a combination of the easiness and comfort of the F1 and the brutality and aggressiveness of the P1. Like the P1 the concept will get a Hybrid powertrain but McLaren haven’t revealed the engine configuration as well as the number of electric motors. One thing which is sure is that the BP23 would generate more horses than any its current cars produce. Like every other McLaren, the BP23 will consist of a carbon fibre chassis but will also come with a streamlined and shrink-wrapped carbon fibre body, making the car as light as possible and customers will be given numerous specification possibilities like a bespoke color to trim option.

McLaren boss, Mike Flewitt has confirmed that the BP23 will be a hyper GT “because it’s a car designed for longer journeys but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren”.

McLaren are selling the car as a collector’s edition and are only manufacturing 106 units which have all sold-out. Well next time if someone does want to be a preferred customer at McLaren, you would need to an existing customer to get an invite from the British car-maker the next time a limited-run vehicle would be introduced.
