Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the hybrid version of its popular SUV, Scorpio. The new variant is named as Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid and the top-end S10 is priced at Rs 12.84 lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai).

The hybrid system increases the fuel efficiency by 7 per cent as compared to the regular diesel powered variant by providing electric power during acceleration, claims Mahnidra. The BS-IV compliant Scorpio also gets regenerative braking, which recharges the battery and also a start-stop function to provide maximum efficiency. Scorpio is the first SUV in its segment to get a hybrid system.

Speaking at the launch, Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said, “As an organisation that places keen emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, across every process and product, we are proud to introduce mild hybrid technology on the Scorpio. By reducing fuel consumption, Intelli-Hybrid helps Scorpio owners to contribute towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow.”

The Intelli-Hybrid option is available on 7 variants of Scorpio starting with the base at S4 and going all the way to S10-4WD (manual transmission) variant. For now, it will be offered only in the 2.2-litre variant which makes 120bhp and 280Nm of torque.
