Scoop! MG to debut in India with the ZS compact SUV

Team Evo India

We had told you earlier that MG will be entering India with a compact SUV and having launched its official Facebook page, the company has teased with us with a quick snapshot of the ZS, which was launched last year in China.

The ZS with its tight proportions and sharp creases looks like a modern compact SUV. Distinct design features include a trapezoidal grille at the front, plastic-cladding all-around, silver skid plates and chrome inserts in the bumpers.

The ZS is also sold in UK where it is available with a choice of two engines – a 1.5-litre DOHC petrol and a 1-litre turbo-diesel. The petrol motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and churns out 104bhp of power while the diesel unit gets a 6-speed automatic transmission, producing 109bhp of power. We are not sure whether Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor), MG’s China based parent company will bring the same engines to India as well.

In UK, the prices for the MG ZS start at around £12,495 (Rs 10.71 lakh, not including Indian duties and taxes) which puts it well in the territory of the Hyundai Creta in India. The pricing will depend upon the percentage of localisation in the manufacturing process at its Halol based plant.
