Team Evo India

Volvo India launched its new premium sedan, the Volvo S90, today. The successor to the S80, the S90 is priced at Rs.53.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The luxury sedan shares the platform with the XC90 which has received a decent response in terms of sales and Volvo expects to maintain the numbers with the S90.

Available in India with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, twin-turbo charged, diesel engine that churns out 188bhp and 400Nm of torque, the S90 is capable of sprinting to 100kmph in 8.2 seconds and max out at a limited top speed of 230kmph.

In terms of the interiors, the S90 is loaded with luxury features such as front massage seats, and a 1400W Bowers and Wilkins music system. Volvo has maintained the minimalist approach on the S90 by removing all the knobs and buttons from the dashboard and used a massive infotainment system to control things like the cabin temperature, driving mode selector, navigation and entertainment. Volvo has always been at the forefront when it comes to safety and obviously, the S90 with basic features like ABS, EBD, airbags along with a new Pilot Assist programme. After the XC90, the S90 is the only car in India to be equipped with a radar guided safety system , allowing for various guidance capabilities for the driver.

For now, Volvo has brought in only the Inscription variant in India, which comes with all the bells and whistles. The S90 goes up against the likes of 5 Series, E-Class, XF and A6 and makes for a good-looking and refined alternative to the other luxury sedans in its class.
