Day 7 – Renault India Diamond Trail – The handover
We’ve officially completed the first leg of the India Diamond Trail driving the Renault Kwid. We flagged off in Delhi and drove the Renault Kwid through the vastness of Rajasthan and Gujarat, finally ticking off Koteshvar from our list of four extreme corners of India.
Aatish and his crew handed over the baton to us in Pune for the next leg of our drive, where we will drive through South India in a bid to reach Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India. There’s also another major change on our drive. The Kwid AMT that was driven from Delhi to Pune will now be replaced by a Kwid manual for the remainder of the India Diamond Trail.
Being at homebase was of course special to us and that’s why we decided to take the Kwid for some sightseeing. The sprawling Savitribai Phule Pune University is known for its lush greenery, British era architecture and the 43 academic departments that currently operate out of its massive campus. Joggers and health freaks often take the liberty to use the university campus for exercise in the mornings and evenings. The Shaniwarwada too is one of the major attractions. It’s construction was completed in 1732 and was the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha empire till 1818. That apart Pune is also famous for the Aga Khan Palace, Sinhagad Fort, Pataleshwar Temple etc.
It was quite a fun outing with the Kwid in Pune as it was happy pottering around the city without any issues. The Milaze series tyres from CEAT too have been great so far. To make sure they stayed in good condition we also did a pitstop at a CEAT tyres dealership. We’re next headed to Bangalore today covering one of the longest distances in our drive (850km) within a day. Stay tuned
