The BMW X4 M40i makes its global debut at the Detroit Motor Show 2016. The car carries forward the 3.0 litre turbocharged inline six cylinder engine from the X4 xDrive35i model. However the engine gets tuned by BMW’s ‘M’ department which means it now produces 355 hp and 465 Nm of torque, a significant 54hp and 65Nm bump.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox is coupled to the engine with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. The M40i gets launch control with the gearbox tuned for sportier shifts. All the above upgrades assists the X4 to now clock 0-100kmph in 4.7 seconds with an electronically restricted top speed of 250kmph.

Aesthetically the X4 M40i gets the M Sport package as well as 19-inch alloy wheels which can sport all-season run-flat 245/45 tires or performance oriented 245/45 tires at the front and 275/40 tires at the rear. A 20-inch wheel option is also available which bears Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.
