Audi Sport ABT team clinches the Formula E title

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is being led by the Audi Sport team with maximum points on the chart. The last race was a bit of an arduous task for Teecheetah’s J. Vergne as he finished in 5th place behind Team Venturi’s Dillmann. The top spots were grabbed by the Audi Sport ABT team with di Grassi in first place and Daniel Abt for a commendable second.

The race in Hong Kong turned out to be a disaster for the polemen, as di Grassi scores zero points due to a collision and Daniel Abt having starting problems with the car putting him 20 seconds off the time. Lucas di Grassi stops due to a faulty alarm in the battery management system of his car. “We had strong race pace on both days. But it goes without saying that we had a somewhat different idea of the season opener“ says Dieter Gass, Head of Audi Motorsport.

The Marrakesh round showed hope as Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi manage to set the best times in all the free practice sessions. This proved the capabilities of the Audi e-tron FE04 car. Daniel Abt ran out of luck when his car suffered a technical issue making it a DNF. Di Grassi seemed frustrated that even though the cars were fast, they were not able to extract a better position in the race due to reliability issues.

Santiago de Chile was another shocker as the team could not score any points from the Formula E event. Lucas di Grassi had a boatload of technical issues which forces him to retire. Daniel Abt’s Audi e-tron FE04 is hit by a rival and parked before the race is over. The fifth round in Mexico was a turning point for the Audi Sport ABT team as it was a maiden win for Daniel Abt and the first win for Audi as a factory team. The Brazilian starts from the back of the grid because his inverter had to be opened after the race in Santiago. In spite of these difficult conditions, he shows a spirited fightback and with ninth position scores his first points of this season.

The Formula E team standings are currently led by the Audi Sport ABT team with 264 points in the bag followed by Teecheetah at 262 points and DS Virgin Racing with 160 points.
