Hero Motors enters a JV with Hewland Engineering

Hero Motors (a division of Hero MotoCorp that manufactures transmissions and auto components) has entered a joint venture (JV) with Hewland Engineering to provide OEMs a larger manufacturing platform. The new company will be known as Hero Hewland and its HQ will be located in Maidenhead, near London.

The JV will utilise Hewland’s advanced design transmission design facilities based in the UK alongside Hero Motors’ mass manufacturing capabilities that would allow customers to develop the gearboxes from the concept design all the way to high volume supply.

Hewland is well known for their performance transmissions which are used throughout the best of motorsport vehicles and has already partnered with several OEMs. At the announcement, William Hewland, Chairman said, “We will continue proudly with our UK manufacturing business within motorsport and the increasing design and prototype service we provide to OEMs. However we will now be able to carry our clients prototypes into competitive mass production via our partners at Hero Motors. We will also add product technology to Hero as applicable.”

Mr Pankaj Munjal, Chairman of Hero Motors added, “With this we are not only increasing our global presence and our association with leading international brands, but also expanding our Indian market as well. It will help the company give the best of its technology and services to customers at a competitive price.”

The partnership will provide powertrain solutions for passenger and commercial vehicle OEMs. Hewland is also well known among the electric vehicles manufacturers and this partnership will help them improve the scale to a much bigger platform.
