2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 breaks cover with an inline 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet!

The latest Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 has made its public appearance in its 2027 ’guise. Once rumoured to receive a recycled 4-cylinder engine, it disproved all the conjecture with the introduction of a new 3-litre, inline 6-cylinder engine, a more gnarly exhaust system, and a dedicated Drift Mode along with the latest MBUX with voice controlled AI to operate the infotainment system. Mercedes-Benz will also offer optional extras like AMG Night Package, AMG Night Package Plus and even a ‘Golden Accents’ Package which is a new option. Here are some key highlights of the latest India-bound AMG model.

2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 design

In a general sense, it looks very similar to the AMG GLC 43, with the vertically-slated ‘Panamericana’ AMG grille, flanked by angular quad-LED projector headlights and AMG front apron elements on the lower bumper. The rear too gets the familiar wire-frame LED tail lights as seen on the AMG GLC 43 and AMG CLE 53. The ‘Golden Accents’ Package leads the charge on the updated design front. Mercedes calls its secondary colour ‘Techgold’ with a golden AMG branding above the side skirts on the exterior, another notable element is the golden pinstriping on the 21-inch AMG cross-spoke wheels in matte black. The said package will get two main exterior paint options to choose from – Obsidian Black Metallic and Graphite Grey Magno. The same golden shade will adorn the cabin’s black leather AMG sports seats, along with AMG floor mats with contrast stitching. The face of the dashboard features glossy carbonfibre trim which is accompanied with a subtle golden hue. It will have two other optional packages on offer – AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package Plus.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 will have the latest MBUX with a voice controlled 11.9-inch vertically oriented infotainment strengthened with AI capabilities, which will also have functions tailor-made for AMG models. There’s also the familiar 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, alongside the AMG Performance sound in the cabin. It gets a revamped AMG Dynamic Select, which can be had with an AMG Dynamic Plus Package – unlocking ‘Race Mode’ and ‘Drift Mode.’ All this can be controlled via a flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel which has AMG Drive Unit buttons. It will also come equipped with the latest driver assistance systems.

2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 engine and performance

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 packs a 3-litre, inline 6-cylinder AMG engine, assisted by an exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor. It is capable of a peak output of 437bhp and 601Nm of torque. It can also deliver a short burst of 640Nm of torque with overboost. It does a 0 to 100kmph sprint in 4.2 seconds (with the optional Race Mode) and has an electronically limited top speed of 249kmph.

For context, the AMG GLC 43 makes 27bhp and 101Nm less than the new model with its now puny 2-litre, 4-cylinder heart that was assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system. It is also 0.5 seconds slower than the AMG GLC 53. It is driven by a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with all-wheel-drive. There’s also a 2.5-degree turning rear-axle steering setup. Damping is taken care of by AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping adjustment. AMG high-performance braking system ensures the GLC 53 has ample stopping power.

There’s no defined timeline for its arrival to the Indian shores. It is also worth mentioning that the global markets such as the US will have this model in SUV and Coupe SUV body styles.
