Mercedes-Benz India has launched the AMG CLE 53 Coupe at a starting price of ₹1.35 crore. It features butch styling elements such as strong double haunches on the bonnet followed by the Panamericana grille with darkened slats and an AMG badge. It is powered by a 3-litre in-line six-cylinder twin-turbo engine with a second-gen 48V integrated starter generator (ISG), produces 442bhp and 560Nm.

The AMG CLE 53 is the angrier cousin of the CLE 300 and brings substantial firepower with its 3-litre in-line six-cylinder twin-turbo engine coupled with a 48V (ISG) hybrid system, mated to nine-speed TCT ’box with all-wheel-drive. It produces a potent 442bhp and 560Nm with a claimed 0 to 100kmph time of 4.2 seconds and 250kmph top speed. As for the chassis, it gets rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees for a tighter turning radius with less steering input at low speeds and faster cornering at high speeds. It also comes with active engine mounts which have actuators in the engine bay to counteract engine vibrations based on the selected drive mode. It also comes with a steel suspension setup with adaptive adjustable dampers to either stiffen the ride for performance or slacken it for comfort. There are three suspension modes — Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Backing its performance intent, it is also 58mm wider at the front and 75mm at the rear in contrast to the Mercedes-Benz CLE 300. It gets a host of driving modes such as Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual mode along with multiple ESP modes such as Basic, Advanced and Pro. Additionally, there’s a dedicated drift mode that makes it rear-wheel-drive only. It gets perforated and ventilated brake discs with 370mm and four-piston calipers at the front along with 360mm and single-piston floating calipers at the rear.

The striking two-door silhouette is accompanied by menacing AMG style cues such as the prominent Panamericana grille with darkened slats flanked by digital LED headlights. The lower air inlets at the front get additional horizontal slats for better air channeling. It gets 20-inch AMG wheels with aero inserts behind which aid in reducing drag and maximising efficiency. At the rear it gets a boot lip spoiler in either body colour or black, connected LED taillights with 3D light signatures, quad-tailpipes flanking a subtle rear diffuser.
On the inside, it gets an AMG Performance multifunction ’wheel wrapped in microfibre as well as AMG performance seats in nappa leather with red accents and stitching. It gets a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and an 11.9-inch vertical infotainment screen and a choice of 64 colours for ambient lighting.
