Anyone who has driven in India will agree that driving or riding on our roads is far from easy, and a big factor contributing to the stress of driving / riding in India is the lack of discipline when it comes to following traffic rules. As per a report published by the government on road accidents in India, 1.68 lakh road fatalities took place in the country in 2022, which is an alarming statistic. Improving road safety is by no means a small undertaking, which will involve efforts that include stricter enforcement of traffic rules and also better road conditions. But as the adage goes, change starts from within. And to help motorists become safer drivers / riders, the Reach Home Safe safety seminar is potentially a good place to start.

Sponsored by Motul India and Red Bull, Reach Home Safe is an initiative by Badal Doshi, who has been involved in motorsport and motorcycle racing for over 30 years. Over the course of his career, he has won five National Championships, and while he has retired from full-time racing, Doshi started conducting road safety programmes in 2014. He was an advisor to the Navi Mumbai Police for two years and these programmes were initially conducted for students, corporate and government employees. However, he encourages anyone who is interested in road safety to join in – there isn’t an age criteria here. These seminars include tips and techniques to become better motorists, while also raising awareness about products such as riding gear or tyres that can make your life on the road safer.

These road safety seminars take place once a month and coincide with motorsport events, with the seminar followed by the screening of a Formula 1 or MotoGP race taking place that weekend. A notable motorsport figure is usually present at these seminars too, with Formula car and karting champion Rayomand Banajee having attended in the past. But how does one attend one of these events? Details for the next seminar, scheduled to take place on September 7, are present on Doshi’s Instagram page, and you can enrol in the seminar by heading to the Sbracing website. If you’re keen on becoming a safer motorist, it is definitely worth attending one of these, because at the end of day, we all just want to reach home safe and sound to our family and friends, rather than becoming another statistic.
