Ducati announces 25th Anniversary edition of the Monster 1200

Team Evo India

Ducati recently announced the release of a new limited edition bike – the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario. A redesign of the standard Monster 1200, the bike retains many of the quintessential elements of the original, while also leaving room for modifications and refinements. A newly designed colour scheme, golden frameworks, unmistakably unique forged wheels with gold-coloured spokes, and an exclusive bike cover, are among the alterations and added features. Only 500 models will be sold.

The Anniversario

The bike’s tank, passenger seat, and motorcycle fairing have all been given a complete revamp in terms of body paint: The bike has been painted in hues of Red, White, and Green, reminiscent of the 2008 Monster0 S4RS Testastretta Tricolore’s aesthetic. The incorporation of the other two colours complements the visual of the standard, and recognizable, Ducati Red. The dedicated adjustable seat is embroidered with a unique logo to signify the quarter-century that has passed since the premier release. Embellishments are present throughout the body, in the form of small bullet aluminum details and finishes; present on the brake/clutch levers, mirrors, and fuel tank cap. One unique hallmark is the specialized numbering – each bike has a silver plating on the frame that has its manufacture number (progressively, out of the total 500 produced). The average dry weight clocks at 184 kg.

The Engine & Specs

The bike runs on a Euro 4 type-approved, liquid cooled Testastretta 11° DS twin-cylinder engine, which works in tandem with the side- mounted shotgun exhaust to generate 147bhp of max power. The engine, though a twin-cylinder, is comparable to a ¾ cylinder, potentially capable of reaching even higher performance levels. The 48 mm fully adjustable Öhlins fork front suspension and Brembo radial braking system (discs and callipers) ensure a smooth, undisturbed ride. And finally the die-cast strong aluminium single-sided swingarm allows for excellently high rigidity, lower weight, and outstanding stability.

The Tech

A technological stronghold, the bike also includes modern electronic features to better the experience. The Bosch IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit) sends information along to the  DTC (Traction Control) , DWC (Wheelie Control) , and ABS Bosch Cornering systems, respectively. The newly equipped DQS also allows for the rider to quickly switch gears without using the clutch. Also included is the latest TFT colour display, which always displays gear indicator and fuel level, while the rest of the screen switches between 3 modes (Core, Full, and Track), each of which automatically activates depending on the riding situation/environment.

The pricing has not yet officially been announced, but bookings can be made immediately at the nearest Ducati showroom, and shipments will begin between September and December, depending on location.

The Monster’s History

One of Ducati’s most iconic bikes, the Monster was originally released in 1993, pioneering the category of Naked sports motorcycles. Gaining a reputation for combining the two formerly separate categories (Naked and Sports), it has held on to its status as an exemplary member of the Ducati family, with over 325,000 models manufactured since the original release.
