Mahindra Racing finishes third in 2026 FIA Formula E Championship
Mahindra Racing secures third position in FIA Formula E Championship thanks to a double podium at the season finale in London
Mahindra racing arrived at the ExCeL London circuit for the double header season finale just one point behind Andretti. Mahindra Racing has had its fair share of problems over the last couple years and this year the team has made a comeback with two race wins by Nyck de Vries who had his best Formula E season since his title winning 2020/21 season. His teammate Edoardo Mortara also performed consistently throughout the season with two podium finishes.
On Saturday, Mahindra racing celebrated India’s Independence Day with a remarkable performance put up by Mortara during the race. During practice, both drivers topped the time sheets although had a couple hiccups qualifying with Nyck finishing in 9th and Edoardo finishing in 13th but starting the race in 18th due to a five-place grid penalty incurred in Tokyo. The race itself was interrupted by a late full course yellow flag which played against de Vries’s strategy pushing him back to 13th, although Mortara made up 11 positions to finish in 7th for the team on its special day.
On Sunday, both drivers fought their way through the Duels to face each other in the final, de Vries got the better of his teammate taking pole position and marking his fifth pole position of the season. Both the drivers had a clean race start, having a clean getaway and held their positions through the initial couple laps.
Nyck activated his attack mode on Lap 6 to maintain the lead, with Edoardo following suit a lap later holding on to second place despite missing the activation point. Edoardo eventually did pass his teammate and on Lap 22 activated Attack mode. With both drivers having one Attack mode remaining each, de Vries made his way back past Mortara and in the closing stages of the race both drivers used their final allocation of extra power simultaneously.
De Vries and Mortara eventually finished second and third due to a late Attack Mode deployment from Taylor Barnard which denied the Mahindra drivers the top step of the podium. The team’s 42-point haul from the London double header meant it had now surpassed Andretti by 23 points and secured third place in the Teams’ Championship with a total of 252 points, while Mortara finished fifth and de Vries finished seventh in the Driver’s Championship. Over the course of the season, the team accumulated 7 podium finishes, 5 pole positions and 2 wins.
Celebrating his second place for Mahindra, Nyck de Vries said “We couldn’t have wished for a better end. Our objective this weekend was to finish third in the Teams’ Championship which I think was a realistic but challenging target. We had a tough Saturday, but bounced back today and everyone delivered. We executed and raced like a team.”
After completing the double podium Mortara commented “The race was positive. We executed well and we managed to get third in the Teams’ Championship which is a massive step in the right direction compared to last year. I’m super happy with what we achieved today, and the season as a whole.”
Commenting on a successful season for Mahindra, Team Principal & CEO Frederic Bertrand added: “Today is an important result for Mahindra Racing. To finish the season with our first front-row lockout, both cars on the podium and third in the Teams’ World Championship says a great deal about the level this team has reached.
