BMW to bring the M2 Competition to India

BMW offers five of its M performance models in India starting from the M3 and going all the way up to X6 M which is the priciest and most beastly of all. But ever noticed that the bottom end of this hierarchy was missing?  Well, not anymore because BMW is bringing their entry-level M performance car to the Indian shores. Yes, the German marque is getting the M2 to India. And forget the standard version, because we will be getting the even more maniac M2 Competition.

The new sports car is basically the 2018 version of the M2 but is heavily upgraded and hence gets the Competition nametag. It is propelled by BMWs 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine that shells out 404bhp with a maximum torque output of 550nm which is over 40bhp more than the standard M2. It’s the same engine that powers its mightier siblings, the M3 and the M4 Coupé but makes around 40bhp more in them, albeit with the same torque output. In the M2 Competition, power will be transferred to the rear wheels via a dual clutch transmission which we believe is the preferred choice for India. But we would also like if BMW could get the 5-speed manual transmission as well as it appeals to our enthusiastic soul. According to BMW’s performance figures, top speed is limited to 250kmph and the car will rocket from 0-100kmph in just 4.2 seconds for the DCT variant and 4.4 seconds for the manual.

The M2 Competition was first displayed at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show and was launched in international markets in the second quarter of 2018. It’s the first time ever that an M2 is heading to India and while the bigger M3 is sold at Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom India) we can expect the M2 Competition to be priced between Rs 80 – 90 lakh. Internationally the car rivals against the Audi TT RS and the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS.
