2020 Bentley Bentayga Speed: Still the fastest SUV in the world

George Dcruze

For 2020, Bentley has updated the Bentayga Speed with styling that falls in line with the updated Bentayga that was unveiled not too long ago, along with some updated equipment.

The Bentayga Speed retains its 6-litre turbocharged W12 which puts out 626bhp and 900Nm of twist. Torque is available from as low as 1500rpm. The nought-to-100kmph sprint is achieved in a mere 3.9 seconds, rivalling the Lamborghini Urus which does the same in 3.6 seconds. The top speed remains the record-holding 306kmph as well, just a smidgeon over the Urus.

Bentley has also lent flexibility to the car, when it comes to fuel efficiency, with the option to deactivate 6 of the 12 cylinders when the driver is off the throttle. The SUV also boasts of four driving modes — Comfort, Bentley, Sport and Custom ranging to suit comfort and performance at the two ends. The Custom mode allows you to set every aspect of the driving dynamics according to your liking while the Bentley mode is the most balanced of them all.

Carbonfibre bits all over the dash and steering

The Bentayga Speed also incorporates its ‘Dynamic Ride’ program, which is the world’s first active roll control technology, claims the British carmaker. The Bentayga Speed can also be specced with carbon ceramic brakes.

Bentley has also made a few aesthetic changes to the exterior to help the Speed stand out from a regular Bentayga. These include tinted headlamps, unique side-skirts along with front and rear bumpers, and an elongated spoiler. The Speed also comes with 22-inch wheels and the signature ‘Speed’ badge.

22-inch rims as standard

Bentley has also gone an extra mile in making the Bentayga Speed experience a bespoke one, with 47 extra paint schemes and 24 duo-tone options by its in-house designer label, Mulliner. The interiors also come finished in Alcantara and ‘Speed’ embroidery on the headrests as standard.

Bentley has also introduced the ‘Black Specification’, similar to the Black Badge platform offered by Rolls Royce. This edition will sport an all gloss-black and carbon fibre exterior, along carbon fibre roof spoiler that replaces the standard one.

On the inside, you get a massive 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Head-up display projects traffic information, street names and distance to destination too. The Bentayga Speed now has a fully digital driver’s information panel similar to the Continental GT and new Flying Spur.

Bentley will soon be announcing the Bentayga Hybrid as well which will be their first luxury hybrid SUV.
