Ayrton Senna’s iconic Honda NSX will be going up for auction at RM Sotheby’s London auction with an estimated selling price of ₹6.69 crore to ₹10.52 crore. If you didn’t know, Ayrton Senna was one of the most-reputed F1 drivers the sport has ever seen. In his 10 year long career in Formula 1, he drove for Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and lastly Williams, accumulating 41 race wins, 80 podium finishes and 3 world championships with McLaren.
Honda and Senna always had a strong relationship, considering that the founder of Honda, Soichiro Honda, had a deep and personal relationship with Ayrton Senna. This relationship went beyond the Formula 1 grid in 1989, when Senna drove the prototype of the Honda NSX around the Suzuka circuit and mentioned to the engineers that the chassis seemed “a little fragile”, which prompted Honda’s engineers to go back to the drawing board and increased the chassis stiffness by 50 percent. Later, he also helped fine-tune the suspension setup around the Nürburgring.
Honda as a token of gratitude provided Ayrton Senna with three NSXs, exclusively for his personal use, two of which were finished in black and this particular one which will be going up for auction soon finished in Formula Red. This particular NSX was imported to Portugal by Honda Automobil de Portugal and registered on 22 March 1991 with the number ‘SX-25-59’. It was personally allocated to Ayrton Senna for exclusive use in Europe. Its chassis number was T000233 and was stored in Lisbon and delivered to Senna every time he arrived in the country.
The Honda NSX is powered by a mid-engined 3-litre naturally-aspirated V6,, and it makes 271bhp and 284Nm.Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. It went from 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds with a top-speed of 270kmph, when brand new.
