Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella
The unveiling of the Urban Cruiser Ebella adds an all-electric vehicle to Toyota India’s portfolio. Being co-produced with Maruti Suzuki alongside the e Vitara, Toyota designers have worked tremendously to differentiate the styling of the front end of both cars unlike the ICE Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser, and the Hycross and Invicto which look almost identical to each other. With 38 million plus Toyota electric vehicles sold globally, and the increased adoption of electric vehicles by consumers, the Ebella now is ready to compete in the Indian markets. The Urban Cruiser Ebella, will rival cars like the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and the Mahindra BE6 and XEV 9S. Here is what we know so far about the Ebella.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella design
The Toyota signature hammerhead style has the resemblance to its ICE cousin the Toyota Urban Cruiser but has been refreshed and redesigned with distinctive rear tail lamps, premium LED headlamps and a whole new front fascia. The Urban Cruiser Ebella stands tall with its mid-size SUV frame and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Ebella will get five monotone colour options, Cafe White, Blush Black, Gaming Grey, Sportin Red and Enticing Silver along with four dual tone colour options to choose from.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella interior
The Urban Cruiser Ebella now gets a full refresh of the dashboard with 10.1 inch infotainment screen with 100 plus iConnected features, new twin spoke squircle steering wheel, 12 colour ambient lighting and a premium sound system by JBL. It now also features ventilated front seats and an electrically operated sunroof unlike its stablemate the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara which only gets a fixed glass roof. On the safety front the Urban Cruiser Ebella gets seven SRS airbags as standard from the base variant, Level 2 Adas and 360 degree camera.
Urban Cruiser EBella powertrain
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is offered with two battery packs, a 49kWh and a 61 kWH which produces 172bhp and 189Nm of instant torque identical to the co-designed Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The Ebella has an ARAI-claimed range of 543kms on a single charge and comes with ‘Battery Thermal Management System” with quick warm up and quick cooling technologies for optimised battery performance for Indian weather conditions. Toyota has partnered with Jio BP Pulse and Chargezone to offer fast charging solutions for which we still await details along with home charging solutions.
Urban Cruiser Ebella rivals
The Ebella will go up against the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara (once launched), Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, VinFast VF 7 and VF 6, Tata Harrier and Curvv EV. This is Toyota’s first all-electric vehicle that is being offered in India and Toyota is giving an eight year warranty on the electric battery with up to 60% assured buyback guarantee within 3 years.
