40 years of Mercedes-Benz G-Class – the drive along dam walls

News Desk

Remember how Richard Hammond winched himself up in a 64-year-old Land Rover in season 22 of Top Gear? The stunt was done to pay tribute to the Land Rover Defender as the company ceased production of the iconic SUV in 2015.  Mercedes-Benz’ latest video starring the G-Class  – the nearly 2.5-tonne SUV is shown driving on the side of the 101-metre high wall of the Punta Negra dam in Argentina may remind you of the same when you see it. This was done as a part of its 40th anniversary, to stress on its taglines – ‘stronger than time’ and ‘stronger than gravity’ and to increase the Mercedes-Benz G-Class’ appeal.

Mercedes-Benz claims no CGI was used and the stunt was done for real. You can also check out their Instagram page for photos and videos of the stunt, says Mercedes-Benz. A behind the scenes video of the same will be available on March 8.

Gunnar Güthenke, head of the off-road product group – Mercedes-Benz, on the G-Class

“Over 40 years the G-Class has been continuously developed further, while retaining its character and unmistakable key attributes. Its DNA is stronger than trends, defying both the passage of time and even gravity. We have dramatically demonstrated this with the drive, where the #gclass moves along a dam wall above the abyss.”
