Porsche India has driven in the eighth generation of the iconic 911 in India at Rs 1.82 Crore, ex-showroom. This is the price for the Porsche 911 Carrera S while the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet costs Rs 1.92 Crore. The new 911 is faster, more dynamic and packs more tech than the outgoing model.

Powering Porsche’s most iconic sportscar

A more powerful version of the 3.0-litre twin turbocharged flat six from the outgoing GTS underpins the Porsche 911 Carrera S and its Cabriolet sibling. It now punches out 444bhp and 550Nm of torque, which is 30bhp and 50Nm more than the outgoing model. There are incremental changes and updates to the majority of the motor’s components. These include a particulate filter, an all-new exhaust system producing less back pressure and vastly improving the flow, and adds to the natural soundtrack with less reliance on the sound-imposer system. Power in the new models is transferred to the rear wheels by a newly developed eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission.

The new 911 Carrera S hits the ton in just 3.7 seconds while the Cabriolet does it in 3.9 seconds. This makes both cars 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. The optional Sport Chrono Package reduces the sprint by a further 0.2 seconds. The 911 Carrera S tops out at at 308kmph, while the soft-top version does 306kmph.

Design of the new Porsche 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera S Cabriolet

The Porsche retains its iconic silhouette. But the subtle upgrades in design make a big impact on the car’s overall appeal and performance.  The sportscar has wider wheel housings which arch over 20inch front and 21inch rear wheels. The body is now 45 mm wider at the front while at the rear, all models feature a significantly wider rear spoiler. Porsche engineers have made the entire outer shell, apart from the front and rear sections, out of aluminium. What we definitely find striking is the seamless taillight strip at the rear and the matrix LEDs upfront.

The launch event was held at the FIA certified Buddh International Circuit, where Pavan Shetty, Director of Porsche India, quoted “Just like the first generation, the latest 911 is a sports car for the new era. Our icon has once again evolved and is now more powerful, more emotional, and more efficient than its predecessors. It is the best 911 Porsche has ever produced and to prove that point we have brought the range to the Buddh International Circuit for a performance showcase. The eighth generation maintains the 911’s status as a pure driver’s car that also offers everyday usability and unique design. As such, I am delighted to announce that the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet are now available in India for booking.”
