Suzuki Jimny

Suzuki has revealed selective images of its yet-to-be-launched SUV, the Jimny. Better known as the Gypsy in India, it is a legend when it comes to off roading. The first generation Suzuki Jimny made its debut in 1970.

The exteriors

The round headlight setup with the LED DRLS surrounding the projector headlamp is a neat touch. There are little round orange indicators above the headlamp units which look pretty old-school. It gets a five slat grille with the Suzuki logo in the center. The black bumpers house the little round fog lamps. The blacked out wheel arches are flared and extend out of the body to cover the wheels. The gap between the tyres and wheel arch is huge, hinting at the extent of wheel articulation that the Jimny is capable of. From the images, the ground clearance of the Jimny seems massive. A spare wheel is attached to the rear tailgate. The rear bumper houses the rear taillights. There is a side indicator flanking on either sides, unlike the indicators housed on the side rear view mirrors found on almost all the cars. The hinges of the tail gate are blacked out. The roof too is blacked out, giving it a sporty look. The Jimny is built around a ladder frame chassis and it gets 3-link rigid axle suspension. It gets high profile tyres to focus on the ride quality rather than outright handling characteristics.

Interiors

On the inside, you are greeted with an elegant cabin with a chunky three-spoke steering wheel with audio controls. There is a huge touch screen infotainment system dominating the centre console. Below it is the air vents and three rotary knobs are housed below the air conditioning vents. The instrument cluster is backlit in orange. Driver and passenger airbags are offered. The gear lever knob hints of a 5 speed manual transmission. There are four switches below the rotary knobs, possibly to engage the differentials and other off-road controls. You also get USB charging in the front. The Jimny is equipped with a low ratio transfer case for going off road. The SUV will be available in three dual tone colour options and five single colour options.

Suzuki has not revealed any technical details of the SUV. Stay tuned for more updates on the Suzuki Jimny.
