JT Special Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. which is a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotive has launched the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP at Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.49 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. Both new cars are more powerful and sportier variants of the stock vehicles and come with a host of sporty design touches and meatier engines. Tata says they want to get into ‘Accessible performance motoring’ and underscoring that are their new cars.

The Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP are both powered by Tata’s 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine. Though, the engines have been tuned to deliver 112.4bhp at 5000rpm and 150Nm of peak torque between 2000 and 5000rpm. Power is transferred to the front wheels with the same 5-speed manual transmission albeit with optimized gear ratios. And the company claims that it spurs the car from naught to 100kmph in just 10 seconds.

On the design front too, the new cars boast some fine touches. The bumpers are more aggressive while the roof and the rear spoiler come in glossy black finish. The projector LEDs come with chrome rings and flowing between them is a full black trapezoidal lower grille. Another sporty touch is the inclusion of twin exhausts on the compact cars. On the safety front also the new cars come well equipped. There’s ABS, EBD, dual front airbags and cornering stability control.

On the launch of the power packed JTP range, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President Passenger Vehicles, Tata Motors, said,“Motoring today has become monotonous and regimented. We are committed to offering our customers an elated drive experience in an everyday commute. The JTP range of cars have been designed and engineered with precision to keep the excitement & passion of motoring alive and reverse the commoditization of car purchase. Customers can enjoy their city drive and experience the thrill of driving with these cars. The JTP products will also have a halo effect on  the Tiago and Tigor brands.”

The new Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP will be manufactured at Tata Motors Sanand facility. They are set to compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, Abarth Punto, Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and the Ford Figo S.
