Volkswagen Polo gets a new 1-litre petrol heart

Team Evo India

Volkswagen has introduced the Polo with a smaller 1-litre inline 3-cylinder MPI petrol motor. This brings about the demise of the 1.2-litre MPI engine that was previously used. There are no other changes in the car apart from the new compact power plant that is on offer.

The revised motor makes 75bhp, a rise of 1bhp from the 1.2-litre MPI but the torque is down by 15Nm, now at 95Nm and the car retains the 5-speed manual gearbox.  Volkswagen claims that the new engine in the Polo comes with ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 18.78kmpl. The prices remain the same, with the base variant priced at Rs 5.41 lakh (ex-showroom).

On the introduction of the new engine in the Polo, Stefan Knapp, director, Volkswagen India, said, “Delivering on our promise of continued product introduction and innovation, we are pleased to introduce the Polo in an all-new 1-litre MPI engine. We are known for our performance and unmatched safety and with this new introduction; we further enhance our brand proposition, providing a diverse portfolio to India’s distinctive car-buyer, with multiple engine options that best suits their requirements.”
