The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Jeep India has launched the Meridian at an introductory price tag of Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The Meridian will be offered in five different variants, and it will go up against rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the MG Gloster.

Jeep Meridian Design

Design-wise, the Meridian bears resemblance to the Compass, especially when viewed from the front-on, with the familiar seven-slat grille which now receives doses of chrome. The headlights, which are now full LEDs, have also been redesigned and have been given a chrome surround. There are glimpses of the Grand Cherokee and the Wagoneer in the side profile and the rear of the Meridian, with the two-tone flowing roof treatment and sleek tail lamps. The Meridian also gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, which certainly help fill out the arches better.

Jeep Meridian: What’s under the skin?

Powering the Jeep Meridian is the same 2-litre turbo-diesel unit from the Compass, which puts out 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, paired to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available only with the automatic transmission, while the manual variant will be available in a front-wheel drive layout. Jeep claims a top-speed of 198kmph, and a 0-100kmph time of 10.8 seconds.

Jeep Meridian Interiors and Equipment

The cabin is upholstered in brown leather

The interiors of the Meridian, while bearing some resemblance to the Compass, are upholstered in brown leather. The second row of the Meridian offers one-touch fold and tumble seats, but do note that there are no captain chairs on offer. Some of the other equipment on the Meridian includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touch screen with Uconnect, a wireless smartphone charger, 360-degree camera, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-zone climate control, eight-way powered front seats, and a powered tailgate with customizable opening height among others. The Meridian also packs safety kit such as brake assist, hill start assist, vehicle hold, six airbags and more.

Jeep Meridian Prices and Rivals

With prices ranging between Rs 29.90 lakh to Rs 36.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jeep Meridian enters a hotly contested segment, going up against the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the Skoda Kodiaq. Follow our social media handles to keep up with the #ThrillOfDriving!
