Hyundai Venue Great India Drive blog - Day 1
From there we headed straight to Salt Lake City Stadium, to watch the India vs Bangladesh FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. We weren’t expecting much, coming from states where the craze is all about cricket. We reached with minutes to spare for kick-off and the roar of stadium made us all look at each other and smile, this was going to be fun! The match was a hard fought duel with a goal from Bangladesh at the end of the first half which was a huge blow. Team India kept pushing in the second half and with attack after attack we finally scored in the dying minutes of the match, the atmosphere went from good to electric. The match ended at a 1-1 draw and we headed to our hotel to finally get some rest.
Our first proper day of the drive started the next day with shoots planned in iconic locations across the city. We first headed to the majestic Victoria Memorial and continued onto the chaotic but equally marvellous Howrah Bridge which cost us north of an hour due to the sheer number of vehicles on the road. The buttery smooth DCT made it way easier to drive through the traffic laden parts of the city. Our theme for the drive is football and this being Kolkata, home to one of the largest football stadiums in the world and a huge passionate fanbase, we headed to the various football clubs littered around the city to see their facilities and even saw a practice match underway at East Bengal FC.
With the sun setting we decided to head towards Behrampore, our next destination on the Great India Drive.
This has been just Day 1 and there will surely be many more adventures coming our way, stay tuned on our social media and web page to know what we’re doing in the Venue in some of the most unexplored parts of the country.
