The EV6 is Kia’s first clean-sheet attempt at an electric car, and it sure is a knockout

Kia designed the EV6 from the ground up to be a no-compromise electric vehicle. It deservedly received the title of Green Car of the Year at the renowned ICOTY Awards in 2023. The EV6 is built on the EGMP skateboard platform, which allowed the designers to move away from constraints that an internal combustion drivetrain brings. As a consequence, the form defies convention and does not fit into any one mould. It has a stretched appearance due to its large wheelbase and small overhangs. The sharply cut tail and sloping roofline contrast with the sculpted bonnet and elegantly curving fenders. This is complemented by a smattering of gorgeous details, such as the intricate LED headlamps and the stunning rear light bar.

Silence is only part of the driving experience the Kia EV6 delivers when you first get behind the ’wheel. It has a 77.4kWh battery that gives it an ARAI certified range of 708km on a full charge. Switch the drive mode to sport, and you will experience an incredible sensation of surging forward on what feels like an endless wave of torque. The all-wheel-drive system ensures that it is never short of traction and dispatches 0 to 100kmph in a mere 5.6 seconds. When you’re in a more relaxed mood, you can put the EV6 into Eco mode and increase the brake regeneration to its highest level. This engages i-Pedal mode, which allows the EV6 to be driven with only the throttle pedal and a strong enough regen to bring the car to a complete stop.

The EV6 cocoons you from the outside world with its modern and well thought-out interior. Its dashboard and seat fabric are composed of chemical-free recycled materials and vegan leather, and it has several clever storage solutions. The 12.3-inch curved infotainment screen is intuitive and displays all relevant information related to range, navigation, and entertainment on the homescreen. The air conditioning and Meridian audio system are controlled by the same set of touch-sensitive controls, which rids the cabin of unnecessary clutter.

Kia has managed to create the vehicular equivalent of a zen garden.
