Round 1 of the Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023 saw podium sweeps and unpredictable comebacks

Over the course of a thrilling racing weekend at the Madras International Circuit, Round 1 of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023 witnessed a display of exceptional driving skills and competitive fervour. The weather also played a hand as Sunday saw a persistent drizzle.

In the Indian Touring Cars category, Coimbatore’s Arjun Balu left his mark with a double victory. Arjun won races one and three, with Gurunath Meiyappan and Rithvik Thomas also putting up strong performances, where Gurunath won race two and Rithvik achieved multiple podiums.

Deepak Ravikumar, hailing from Chennai, showcased his prowess by clinching wins in the Indian Junior Touring Cars category. He was a driving force behind Team Performance Racing’s podium sweep in this category, winning races one and two while his teammate, Akkineni Anand Prasad, won race three and achieved second place in the other two races. The Formula LGB 1300 races saw Raghul Rangasamy win race one, but Tijil Rao stole the spotlight on the day, orchestrating a remarkable comeback from P14 on the grid to clinch a stunning victory in race 2.

Deepak Ravikumar continued his winning performance here as well, winning the third race after frontrunners Viswas Vijayaraj and Tijil Rao knocked each other out halfway through the race. In the Super Stock category, Diljith TS of DTS Racing dominated with three consecutive wins, highlighting his consistent performance and driving expertise. A similar dominance was seen in the MRF Saloons category, featuring the Toyota Etios cars, which delivered excitement and intrigue. Angad Matharoo of Redline Racing emerged as the standout performer, achieving a triple delight by securing victories on both days. Across both days, the event featured intense battles, strategic manoeuvres, and remarkable displays of talent from the drivers, setting the stage for what promises to be an action-packed and highly competitive racing season ahead.
