Asia Auto Gymkhana Competition 2018 – Round two
The Asia Auto Gymkhana Competition 2018 round two was be held in India on September 29th and 30th, 2018. AAGC is an entry level grass roots event and the biggest gymkhana event to be held in the country. It was held at the Drift Track at The Raymond Thane, Maharashtra.
“I am delighted to say that the round two of the Asia Auto Gymkhana Competition will be held at Thane, Mumbai. We have given the clubs our full support to host this event. We are also trying to make it a bigger spectacle then it already is so you can expect some drift demos at the track before the competition” said Gautam Hari Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director of Raymond Limited & India’s representative of the FIA’s World Motor Sports Council (WMSC) and the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India)
The AAGC is recognised by the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and organised in conjunction with the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India). Gymkhana is a form of motorsport that tests the drivers skill and technique around a short timed loop marked with cones. The loop will have various obstacles and would require expert manoeuvres such as 360-degree spins, J-Turns, slaloms and precision parking.
“It’s a pleasure to host the first edition of AAGC in India. The aim is to promote grassroots Motorsports amongst the youth in India. Drivers from different countries are battling for their nations’s pride and we will ensure that the show will be an exhilarating experience. Come and be a part of the biggest Gymkhana event India has ever seen as it brings alive the thrill of the sport.” said Dilip Joshi, Chairman, AAGC India.
Mr. Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India said, “We are happy to provide our Volkswagen
Polo stunt cars to the drivers. They are some of the best gymkhana drivers from their respective countries
and would be driving some of the best cars we have to offer. I am excited for the upcoming two days of
the competition.” He further added, “We strive to raise the standard of Indian Motorsport, develop
awareness of motorsports in India and bringing the sport to the maximum audience possible. We are
always ready for any collaboration to popularize motorsports in the country. This form of partnership
restores my faith in future of motorsports in India”.
A total of 32 drivers from 16 countries will be participating in the India leg of the AAGC 2018. The participants will be driving a front-wheel drive Volkswagen Polo powered by a 1.6-litre petrol motor that produces approximately 106bhp.
