In the recently concluded round 1 of the Asia Auto Gymkhana Competition (AAGC), Achintya Mehrotra and Aabhishek Mishra representing Team India, finished third overall in the ‘Team Doubles’ category, while Indonesia and Japan took the top two positions. The competition was held in Bali, Indonesia.
A total of 32 drivers from 13 Asian countries participated in the competition. The drivers were given the same cars (Toyota Agya, right hand drive manual with hydraulic handbrake and rear disc as the only modification), so it was a test of strategy and wheelsmanship.
In the solo/individual qualifying, Achintya Mehrotra finished fifth overall. He was also the second fastest driver in the individual / solo knockout event with a timing of 51.015 seconds. In the knockouts, Achintya clocked the fastest lap with 49.940 seconds and he was 0.014 seconds ahead of the Indonesian driver.
This is the first outing for Aabhishek Mishra and he was the tenth fastest in individual/solo qualifying and finished in top 8 in the solo/individual knockouts.
It has been a good year so far for motorsport in the country with Gaurav Gill making his mark in the WRC 2 class, followed by Sanjay Takale in the WRC 3 class and Amittrajit Ghosh’s participation in the European Rally Championship.
