The Formula 2 Sprint Race 2 at Monza came to an end with Jehan Daruvala taking a dominant victory. Daruvala started the race from P2 after he came ninth in Sprint Race 1. He got a great start from holeshot, took the lead of the race and never looked back. The Indian driver drove confidently from then on, and came home first while having a six-second lead from the car behind. Daruvala currently has 71 F2 championship points under his belt ahead of the Feature Race.

On the way to turn 1 at the opening lap, Daruvala went hard and late on the brakes and overtook race-leader, David Beckmann. Just as Jehan started to edge away from the pack behind, the session was brought to a pause with a Virtual Safety Car. But Jehan kept his cool at the restart and slowly edged away from the pack.

By Lap 15, Daruvala was the fastest man on the grid and judging by the lap times, he was also one of the most consistent drivers. This translated to a gap of five seconds between him and the rest of the pack. In the end, Daruvala brought the car to victory with a six-second gap from Bent Viscaal.

After winning the race, Jehan said, “It feels truly special to hear the Indian national anthem on the top step of the podium. Winning at Monza is every racer’s dream. I had qualified well and knew I had the pace to win. Getting ahead of David at the start and then breaking the tow were critical moments in the race. A big thank you to Carlin for the great car. I’m looking forward to the feature race tomorrow.”

With this victory, Jehan has three podium finishes this season and his second win in Formula 2. He will start the Feature Race from P2. The race will start at 2pm on September 12. Tune into F1TV to watch the race live.
