Despite his P2 finish, Kamaz Master’s Dmitri Sotnikov, the winner of the stage one and two, retains the overall lead in the trucks category at the Dakar 2021
Stage three around Wadi Al-Dawasir began with the Kamaz 43509 truck driver Dmitri Sotnikov, thus far the leader, in the first place. Following him was Aliaksei Vishneuski and Siarhei Viazovich of team Maz-Sportauto in their Maz 6440RR truck.

At the 183km mark, Anton Shibalov, another driver in a Kamaz-Master truck who was consistently on the podium, in stage one and two, overtook Sotnikov. Subsequently, there was a tough and tight competition between Sotnikov, Shibalov and Viazovich with a bracket of twenty seconds between the three.
After the 262km mark, Viazovich was leading, followed by Shibalov and his teammate Andrey Karginov with Sotnikov in third place. By the end of stage three, we saw Viazovich winning the special in stage three with timing of 03:45:14 hours. Even after securing the second position in stage three, Sotnikov still retains the first position in overall rankings and it’ll be exciting to see him driving in stage four tomorrow from Wadi Al-Dawasir to Riyadh (a distance of 373km) which is the longest stage yet and fending off a tough fight to retain the first position.
