Round 2 of the Polo Cup
Round 2 of the Polo Cup presented three races packed with action and drama, where Noida’s Aman Nagdev bagged pole position in race one, the second race was won by Mumbaiker Ojas Surve, and the third race was brought home by Aman Nagdev. Let’s take a closer look at the second round of the Polo Cup.
The lights went off for Race one, and Nagdev had a good start to lead the race. Behind him, Surve made a good start from third on the grid and managed to overtake the second-placed Aditya Patnaik through the first corner. Thereafter, the top three held their positions with Nagdev winning 1.3 seconds ahead of Surve and Patnaik a further 2.9 seconds behind.

The grid for the second was based on a reverse grid of the first five finishers of race one. Rithwik Shekhar reacted well from pole position when the lights went out, but was soon overtaken by Pratik Sonawane, who started second, and Surve, who had a blindingly quick start from fourth. On the first lap itself, Surve made a move on Sonawane at turn four to take the lead. Surve soon pulled away, with Sonawane right at his back. On lap six, Surve & Sonawane made contact at turn ten. Surve reacted brilliantly to avoid spinning around, but Sonawane had to retire with damage.
Nagdev took advantage and overtook both. A lap later, Surve managed to get alongside Nagdev, and the two racers went through the high-speed, first and second corners, side by side, barely inches from each other. Surve triumphed and continued to win ahead of Nagdev and Patnaik, who had started third and finished third.

Aman Nagdev’s performance over the weekend sees him gain the championship lead, followed by Aditya Patnaik in second and Ojas Surve in third. The third round of the Volkswagen Polo Cup will be held in Chennai in December.
